Just got a call from the alarm company; motion alarm in our front room but no door alarms.. I’m out the door and racing home with flashbacks to these thoughts;

Kinja'd!!!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

That was three years ago and I’m still choked..

Alarm guy said its a weird alarm, probably false - did I want the police to respond? I said no - I’m on my way..

I get there and check the front, the lock is still on the side gate, and nothing out of place in the back yard. Front door is locked still and nothing out of place inside. I open the door and turn off the alarm. check the house and there is nothing. then I hear fluttering.. and chirping... !?

This little dude is flying around kitchen, trying to get out the windows.. I close the blinds and open the front and back doors - he finds his way out..

Kinja'd!!!

Turned out better than expected.

Either he snuck in when my wife and kids left in the morning , or else he maybe fell down the fi replace? Hope he’s telling his bird gang how hardcore he is..

Surround the place with hesco barriers, machine gun nests, punji pits, and maybe a few rabid Rottweiler’s high on stimulants. This is the only solid way to know you’re protecting yourself. Anything less is low hanging fruit for the prowling dirtbag.

Yikes. I carry a gun daily but you better believe I’d let the professionals clear my house if I’m getting alarms and no one is home . Of course, this instance you were able to determine before you went in  there that it wasn’t burglar so that’s different I suppose.

It was not a false alarm. You didn’t check to see what’s missing, did you ? They look cute but those little guys are known for taking jewelry, cash, computers to support their drug habits.

The first time it happened I beat the security guard and the police officer there. Security guard went in first, checked around, then we had to wait for the officer to come and do a report. I went in with security and got Doggo out and then waited across the street.

This time there were no door codes, and just one room motion, so unless they broke a window and did a barrel roll I was pretty sure it was a false alarm.

Still not a fun drive up there.

I regularly get audio alerts from the camera in our house from the hummingbirds “thumping” into our windows.

Had a bird get stuck in my parent’s living room (possibly for days) one time when I was house sitting for them. Noticed movement in there (separated from the hall by a door with windows), came in and found the bird, and lots of bird poop (yay!). Looks like it built a nest at the top of the chimney that fell down into the fireplace. Opened all the doors and windows and was able to convince it to fly out (though I think it was quite weak, it didn’t want to fly, and when it did, didn’t fly high or fast). Once it was out, I left some water and bird seed near it, so that it might be able to replenish itself.

Our kids were pretty little, 2 and 5 - so we didn’t really go into depth about it.. M ore like, ‘ the door broke and that’s why we have to go through the garage again..’

Look at that. I replied to your original poset 3 years ago. Reading it is like my voice from the past.......

Glad it was a false alarm. I wonder if you have a house sparrow nest in your attic or something.

Years ago my mom drove my grandmother home, walk in hear somethng upstairs, they leave, my mom locks the door, backs up. For somereason only 1/2 down the driveway (200 feet). then runs next door to call the police. Cops arrive, first goes to door, my mom unlocks the door, they hear the noise, call backup. Next thing half the police department shows up with a dog. The dog starts loosing its mind. They clear the house only for the dog to bark and out pops a squirrel. It climbed through to chimney. To this day we find sooty squirrel prints.    .

I’m thankful for our alarm. It kept our house from burning down when my wife left food cooking on the stove while she made a “quick trip” to pick up our son. It also alerted me when a tornado hit our house. We were lucky that the damage was minimal. It’s had a few false alarms over the years, but the big dog in the house is pretty effective at keeping people away.
